Last year I quit a cushy work from home corporate job making a decent salary. That was with 2 kids and a pregnant wife, and it was the best decision I ever made.
After working in corporate leadership roles for 11 years I decided to quit for 2 reasons.
1.politics
2. limited income.
I realized time and time again in corporate roles that how I made my manager look was more important than my performance. My performance reviews were more about perception to higher ups that I never had contact with than results and I felt it was all just kind of a waste of time.
The 2nd reason is that I wanted to make more income than my salary and that I would never get there in a salaried position.
I needed something that was pay for performance. I wanted to be paid for the value I brought. The harder I work and better I get, the more I make. This led me to go into 100% commission sales.
I was a supervisor for a remote sales team in my last corporate role. I found myself enjoying the sales aspect so much that's all I wanted to do. I didn't want to deal with any of the HR nonsense or political aspects anymore.
Every business in the world functions by sales. The closer you can get to directly making a company money, the more value you are worth and the higher you will be paid.
Since making the jump to 100% commission-based sales, I've worked harder than I ever have in my life and made more money. I’ve had multiple months above $10k And I'm just getting started. Sales is simply helping people using effective communication. Nobody wants to be "sold" but everyone wants to solve their problems. I spend a good amount of money on mentorship and training, which was the best investment I could possibly make.
For anyone who wants to quit their job, the time to quit was when you stopped waking up passionate about it. Don't invest in anything other than how to get a high-income skill. Then skill stack so you can have money to pay off debt, invest, and hit your goals. I’ll be documenting more of my journey in the coming months.
Last year I really struggled, and it was a constant roller coaster. But I found better offers which helped tremendously. Now I’m in the process of skill stacking to become more valuable and earn more.
